Interview with The Thoughtful Co.

Jillian Climie, cofounder of The Thoughtful Co. recently interviewed Erin Brandt and Paula Krawus on what you should know before signing your employment contract. The Thoughtful Co. is a consultancy focused on advancing equity for women in the workplace by advising employees on compensation and contract negotiations, and companies on retention, policy and governance.

Erin and Paula answered questions about non-competition agreements, limitations on severance entitlements post-dismissal, and what happens to incentive and equity compensation (including bonuses, commission and stock options). The article also considered specific industries, including high-tech workers, employees working on commission and start-ups.

As a final thought, Erin and Paula advocated for employers to be more up front and fair around severance, and to reduce the use of non-disparagement clauses, particularly those that silence women’s experiences of sexual harassment and restrict healing and processing of trauma.

We are inspired by The Thoughtful Co.’s mission of “enabling recognition, opportunity and influence for women in the workplace through individual and employer coaching” and look forward to more opportunities to partner together.
