Our Vision

Our vision for PortaLaw is to create a fresh and innovative option for legal services in British Columbia. Legal technology as a bedrock for the delivery of legal services is one of our law firm’s core values, but it’s not the only thing that makes us fresh and innovative.

PortaLaw’s vision is based on three main pillars: value pricing, accessible legal information, and the entrepreneurial spirit.

Value Pricing. We reject the practice of billing clients for our time based on hourly rates, after our work is complete. Hourly rates have little to do with the actual value that lawyers bring to the table.

Instead, we provide clients:

  1. Legal products such as employment agreements and policies, where legal advice is included in the fixed rate;

  2. Subscription services where our time with you is not limited; and

  3. Predictable pricing for starting or defending legal claims.

Accessible Legal Information. Access to justice includes access to free legal information. Not every client and not every legal matter warrants spending money on a lawyer. There is a plethora of free information on the internet, which can be overwhelming, not always correct, and not necessarily applicable within BC. That’s why we created OpenPorta: to facilitate the public’s access to reliable free information about BC employment and human rights law.

Entrepreneurial Spirit. We are a female-owned and operated business, with a millennial mindset. To us, this means taking proactive steps in supporting minority groups participating in and contributing to our local economies. In our legal practice, we promote workplace policies and behaviors that prioritize diversity and inclusion. In our business lives, we relate especially well with female entrepreneurs and like-minded start-ups. And, in our community outreach, this means that we support local workers and businesses to grow into the vision that they see for themselves.
